A Kitchen Makeover – Is it Time to Redo the Floor?
When considering redoing the floor in your kitchen it is often thought of as a pricey job. It can be, but there are options that will be more affordable than others. Like all kitchen makeovers you need to understand what your budget can afford and go from there.
One of the things that I like to stress is always pull up a small corner to see what lies underneath. You may be in for a pleasant surprise and find out all you really need is a little touch up and you’ve got yourself a real gem. But if you’re not that lucky, there are a lot of options available that will fix your kitchen up to look like a whole new place.
If your budget doesn’t allow for exotic hardwoods or expensive slate, don’t let that discourage you, there are still plenty of other options that will make your kitchen look just as good. Some of the laminates now look very similar to the real deal and cost only a fraction of the price.
Ceramic tile can imitate slate quite well, if that’s the look your after. Your other choices could include vinyl or linoleum as they suit a kitchen application quit well and are easy to install. Whatever you choose it is important to remember durability and clean ability when making that choice.
Kitchens are usually heavy traffic areas prone to spills so try and avoid material that can’t handle moisture. Another thing you need to keep in mind when laying out your budget is to factor in whatever substrate and underlay may be needed for your choice of material.
